SUMMARY:Lange Nacht der Münchner Museen
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, October 17\, more than 100 museums\, galleries\, and unusual venues across Munich will open their doors until 1 am for the Lange Nacht der Münchner Museen. Visitors can look forward to an extraordinary night of art\, history\, science\, and hands-on discovery. \nTransforM will be at the Deutsches Museum as part of the Research Playground\, together with the Munich Clusters of Excellence BioSysteM\, e-conversion\, and MCQST\, the research consortium CRC 392 on the origin of life\, and the Science Communication Hub AHA. Each of us will present our work through interactive\, hands-on activities. \nAt the TransforM booth\, you can play our new game on how technologies have transformed societies throughout history. \nMore information about the event is available on the Deutsches Museum website. \n

SUMMARY:Understanding Academic Responses to Research Security: Attitudes\, Norms and Perceived Control in UK International Collaboration
DESCRIPTION:International research collaboration is central to modern science\, yet an emerging “security turn” in science and technology policy is placing new obligations on academics as they pursue cross-border partnerships. Evidence on how these research security measures shape academic practice remains limited.   \nCornelia Lawson\, Professor of Economics of Science and Innovation at the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research (MIOIR)\, will join the TransforM Seminar Series to talk about her research that investigates the performance and career paths of researchers and inventors\, as well as inter-organizational and inter-sectoral research collaboration and knowledge transfer.  \nOne of her recent papers examines the conditions under which UK academics use research security practices and adjust international collaboration behavior in response to security concerns. The findings highlight awareness-building and peer-level engagement as key levers for embedding research security into academic practice.  \n  \nAbout the event  \nThis is a hybrid event. No registration is needed.  \nOn site: ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research\, L7 1\, 68161 Mannheim\, Room: Heinz-König Hall \nOnline: Join the seminar via this Teams link.   \nTransforM’s Seminar Series is a space for cross-disciplinary conversation on transformative technologies and their socio-economic impact. It brings leading academics and international experts for open\, research-driven discussions on the technologies reshaping our economies\, institutions and everyday lives.  \nThe event is organized by TransforM – the Munich Center for Transformative Technologies and Societal Change in collaboration with ZEW – Leibniz Centre for European Economic Research.

SUMMARY:Building with Bats: Transforming Buildings into Ecological Infrastructures
DESCRIPTION:European research and funding policies have increasingly sought to orient research and innovation towards transformative change. A prominent expression of this agenda is the development of Nature-Based Solutions\, which promote the idea of building with nature and challenge the conventional separation between construction and nature conservation.   \nIn this talk\, Lucas Brunet examines a specific type of technology\, ecological infrastructures\, which seek to transform existing infrastructures to accommodate more-than-human life\, and turn inert material devices into living objects. The analysis draws on six months of ethnographic research in the Netherlands on the detection and identification of bats in buildings.   \nBrunet attends to the practices through which the built environment can be turned into ecological infrastructures through the construction of bat boxes and bat towers. The case of bats provides an opportunity to examine what is promised by transformative change\, and how a technology presented as transformative is implemented in the messy and feral world of more-than-human life.  \nAbout the speaker  \nLucas Brunet is a Research Assistant Professor at LISIS (Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire Sciences Innovations Sociétés)\, in INRAE (France’s National Research Institute for Agriculture\, Food and Environment) and University Gustave Eiffel.   \nAbout the event \nThis is an in-person event part of the STS Department (TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology) Doctoral Colloquium Fall 2026. If you are not registered for the Colloquium but would like to attend the Seminar Series with Lucas Brunet\, please email contact@trm.tum.de.  \nTransforM’s Seminar Series is a space for cross-disciplinary conversation on transformative technologies and their socio-economic impact. It brings leading academics and international experts for open\, research-driven discussions on the technologies reshaping our economies\, institutions and everyday lives.

SUMMARY:Quantum Frames: Community Day
DESCRIPTION:Transformative technologies are reshaping how we move\, decide\, and make sense of the world\, and nothing is settled yet. Come think\, question\, and imagine with us while the future is still open. One day\, many perspectives. \nQuantum Frames will take place on October 29\, 2026\, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM at the TUM Think Tank in Munich. \nThis event is organized by the TUM Quantum Social Lab in collaboration with Ben Nott\, the Munich Design Institute and the TUM Center for Culture and Arts. Quantum Frames – Community Day is part of and supported by QuantWorld and TransforM. \nThis day is a starting point\, not a one-off. What we create together will grow into new projects and lasting collaborations\, shaped by everyone who takes part. \nWhat to Expect\nA day that moves between thinking and doing. \n\nTalks on transformative technologies and their place in culture\nWorkshops that make quantum topics tangible and explore themes in architecture and mobility\nHands-on sessions to dig into the questions transformative technologies raise for how we build\, move\, and think\nTime to connect and network with people from different fields\n\nWho should attend\nThis event is for researchers\, creatives\, and anyone working on or curious about transformative technologies\, quantum\, architecture\, and consciousness. \nAbout the event \nThe full day event will take place in person and the full program will be shared soon. \nParticipation is free of charge.
